For our 9 year wedding anniversary, I whisked my wife away for an overnight stay in Lake Tahoe. We had an amazing time and I was even able to snap a few great photos from the top of the Heavenly Gondola Ride. It’s a little pricy but I highly recommend it!
It was the height of fire season and the haze gave the sky a really interesting pink glow at sunset. I donned a mask and headed out to find some great things to photograph. Driving south and east away from Sacramento I stopped to capture this really cool barn by the side of the highway. On my way home driving through some of the back roads, I found this spot with a really cool hill and snapped a few photos that really captured the vibe of creepy back roads at night.
Last week I had the awesome opportunity to photograph a very nice young man for his Senior Portraits. This was my first time doing a dedicated portrait session, so I was, of course, a little nervous. We decided on meeting in Old Sacramento and scouted around for some cool backgrounds. Overall it was a great time and one of those experiences that reminds you why you love photography!
My wife and I had the rare chance to venture out sans kids (Love them to death, but sometimes you just gotta take your girl and get away!) so we decided to do some photo exploring.
So, of course, we headed up to a great spot here in Northern California called the Auburn State Recreation Park. It was super hot and we didn’t really put on enough sunscreen so we just hung out in one spot to take some nice pictures of the river!
My family has been visiting Pismo Beach and several other surrounding cities on the central coast for about 23 years now. It’s become my favorite place on earth, and the place that feels the most like home. I even wrote a little piece about it here:
So when we had a tiny little window to get in and go for a week, we jumped at the chance. Of course, I brought my camera gear to hopefully snap a few great pics!
I love taking pictures of bridges. With the right sky, and lighting, man, you can get some jaw dropping images! Here in Sacramento there is a really nice one called the Tower Bridge. It’s this yellow drawbridge that spans the Sacramento river and leads directly to the State Capitol building. There was a Friday night where I had been itching to get out and do some photography and with the summer sunsets being late I thought that I would have a nice window to put our two daughters down for the night and still get out and shoot the bridge at golden hour.
I’m happy to report that, I managed to get out there and get set up just in time to get a few stunning shots. I was even able to take what is probably my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. It’s this awesome, long exposure HDR photo of the bridge with some great colors and fortuitous timing of a truck driving by at the exact right moment!
I hope you enjoy this little trip downtown at sunset!
Wow! First time getting paid to take photos for someone! I had the honor of covering an event for “The Rich Code Club”. I had the opportunity to photograph and meet Kevin Harrington (Formerly of Shark Tank) and take some good photos and cover the business seminar.
My video production company Focus Video had a job out in Pioneer California, about two hours outside of Sacramento. It was a great day recording a promo video for a storage company in a town I had never visited. I got a great recommendation for a cool place to stop on my way home so I grabbed my camera and did a little walking around and snapped a few good photos.
I had an idea for a vlog, over on my YouTube channel, so obviously that required me to get out and find a cool place to photograph. I had seen this location before and thought it would be fun to head to the Auburn State Recreation Park in Auburn, CA. Flew the drone, took some pictures, and had a great time recording the vlog!
