My wife and I had the rare chance to venture out sans kids (Love them to death, but sometimes you just gotta take your girl and get away!) so we decided to do some photo exploring.
So, of course, we headed up to a great spot here in Northern California called the Auburn State Recreation Park. It was super hot and we didn’t really put on enough sunscreen so we just hung out in one spot to take some nice pictures of the river!
My family has been visiting Pismo Beach and several other surrounding cities on the central coast for about 23 years now. It’s become my favorite place on earth, and the place that feels the most like home. I even wrote a little piece about it here:
So when we had a tiny little window to get in and go for a week, we jumped at the chance. Of course, I brought my camera gear to hopefully snap a few great pics!
I love taking pictures of bridges. With the right sky, and lighting, man, you can get some jaw dropping images! Here in Sacramento there is a really nice one called the Tower Bridge. It’s this yellow drawbridge that spans the Sacramento river and leads directly to the State Capitol building. There was a Friday night where I had been itching to get out and do some photography and with the summer sunsets being late I thought that I would have a nice window to put our two daughters down for the night and still get out and shoot the bridge at golden hour.
I’m happy to report that, I managed to get out there and get set up just in time to get a few stunning shots. I was even able to take what is probably my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. It’s this awesome, long exposure HDR photo of the bridge with some great colors and fortuitous timing of a truck driving by at the exact right moment!
I hope you enjoy this little trip downtown at sunset!
My video production company Focus Video had a job out in Pioneer California, about two hours outside of Sacramento. It was a great day recording a promo video for a storage company in a town I had never visited. I got a great recommendation for a cool place to stop on my way home so I grabbed my camera and did a little walking around and snapped a few good photos.
I had an idea for a vlog, over on my YouTube channel, so obviously that required me to get out and find a cool place to photograph. I had seen this location before and thought it would be fun to head to the Auburn State Recreation Park in Auburn, CA. Flew the drone, took some pictures, and had a great time recording the vlog!
Sometimes, you just have to get up early and get out of the house to take pictures! This was one of those days. I loaded up my gear and headed out to Folsom to go to this cool spot I had scoped out on the American River. I had a great time and a little company in the form of a goose that wasn’t 100% sure if it was cool with me being there. We eventually struck up an agreement that I don’t go near it, and it doesn’t attack me!
I decided to get up early and brave the wild geese down at the Sacramento river and managed to snap a few pictures of one of my favorite bridges. I even got the drone up in the air and battled the wind to get the perfect shot!
So, I had the opportunity to do some work down in Los Angeles and I jumped at the chance to go and help my old church revamp their live streaming and lighting set up. On the way down Highway 5, there are a few overlook locations. I quickly pulled off the road and popped the drone up in the air and pulled out my tripod to see what I could get! These are some of my current favorite images!
Another afternoon where my wife and I had to be out of the house for a few hours. So we loaded up the kids and went over to this really cool park/lake that is made from a dam in the American River. It’s right next to a little fish hatchery that we plan on going to once the girls are old enough for it.
So for the past little bit, I’ve been at home for a good chunk of the day. We’re currently living with our in-laws and they have the house cleaned every other Wednesday.
It’s hard having two little children in the house while they’re cleaning, so I loaded up my oldest and we just took off for a drive. We drove east on the 50 out of Sacramento and ended up and this cool park called Sly Park out past Placerville. I let OJ get out and run around a little and we just admired the snow-capped mountains.
